Oxford offers for Taunton School scholars Amelie and Evie

Two students from Taunton School in Somerset have received offers to study at one of the finest universities in the world, Oxford University.

Seventeen-year-old Amelie from Devon joined Taunton School after gaining a scholarship into the Sixth Form. Amelie is hoping to study History at Queen’s College. Amelie said, “It’s a really exciting opportunity to get this offer and I’m very grateful for everyone who has supported me in this achievement.”

Eighteen-year-old Evie, from Somerset, gained a scholarship to Taunton School in Year 9 after attending a school in Street. Evie is hoping to be studying Classics with Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at St Hugh’s College.

“I’m really excited to study Classics with Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Oxford,” says Evie, “and I’m especially grateful to my wonderful Classics teachers at Taunton School who built my confidence and always support and encourage me to explore my interests and ideas beyond lessons.”

Students at Taunton School who are interested in applying to Oxbridge receive guidance from the school’s dedicated Careers Department, as well as specialist tutoring from Oxbridge Tutor and Head of History, Mark Chatterton.

Taunton School Headmaster, Mr James Johnson, who joined the school in September 2022, said, “This is truly excellent news. It is not only wonderful for the pupils involved but also a credit to their teachers and those who have guided them through the process.”
