Cricket

Cricket is offered all year round at Taunton. Indoor nets start in September in both the Senior and Prep sports halls for pupils from Year 5 upwards. Whilst there is a performance programme in place for our district and county cricketers, there are an equal number of open sessions for all students looking to develop their game.

During the summer, the Prep School runs 14 boys teams in a mixture of block fixtures Vs. other schools and national/county cup competitions across all age groups. The boys generally play within their age groups, but those who have fine tuned their cricketing skills may get the opportunity to play in an older group in county competitions. We are offering more and more girls cricket as its popularity continues to rise. The girls play fixtures from Yr 5 Vs. other local independent schools. The summer sessions for both boys and girls take place in games periods and extra specialist sessions. All standards of players will practice at the same time and cover the same curriculum with individual groups being differentiated. The aim is to progress individuals skills in batting, bowling, fielding and wicket-keeping to be able to play the game in a positive manner, though competitively we do expect to win/reach county cup finals each year.

In the winter terms there are there are two groups, a performance and development group, there is the possibility of doing small group or individuals sessions depending on skill levels and timetables. As per the summer programme, these groups follow the same curriculum. There is more time spent developing their individual skills related to their match performances. These take place in the senior and prep school halls. There are groups sessions for girls and they play in the national indoor competition.

The prep school has 2 of its own dedicated squares and 4 outdoor nets with access to a further 5 squares and 8 nets when required. The schools Director of Cricket is responsible for its provision across the schools. Fixtures take place on most Wednesdays and Saturdays with the school hosting a number of touring schools in the summer term.
