Welcome from the Head
Offering more. That is not just a slogan. I believe that in a world offering a wealth of opportunities for a successful and happy life, a school should do all in its power to bring out the best in its pupils. By offering so much in a full working week, Taunton School encourages participation in areas where pupils are either specialists or simply willing participants.
This is all done in an atmosphere of cooperation and partnership between all parts of the community, but especially between staff and pupils. Visitors to the School often tell us that we are extraordinarily friendly. Good facilities are nothing without teachers of quality. As true enthusiasts, they embody the values that make Taunton School such an exciting place to be.
We offer more, but do we deliver? Yes, because...
...we offer not just A levels and the International Baccalaureate, but a range of lectures and academic events involving well known opinion formers so that our pupils meet those who are shaping the world as it is today.
...we do not simply want our pupils to be responsible adults; we offer girls and boys the chance to learn to be team members and to lead their peers in ways that league tables cannot measure.
...we do not simply have a debating society, we compete regionally, nationally and internationally in all areas of public speaking.
...our shows and concerts are not just for the specialist, but for any pupil who has practised hard and wishes to be part, even a small part, of a cultural event in School.
...we have exceptional girls and boys 1st teams and A teams, but also believe passionately in the success of C teams and 3rds and 4ths.
...because as a matter of policy and strategy, we aim to take our pupils further in their exams than they expected to go; proof of our success is fine results, and evidence from value added data indicates that we enhance the academic performance of our pupils more than even other independent schools.
We aim to offer more because the School aim is ambitious. `Preparing young people to shape a changing world in the 21st century' is a challenge we take very seriously.
